Recap of a Beautiful Spring Day at the Taste of Chittering

by Christine Spycher

What a wonderful early spring day we were blessed with at the Taste of Chittering! The Bindoon Oval served as the perfect setting for this fantastic event, offering visitors ample space to enjoy the day to the fullest.

The expansive grounds of Bindoon Oval provided opportunities for all. From friendly games of chess to spirited ball games, or simply lounging in the sunshine, everyone found their ideal way to savour the day.

A diverse array of stallholders showcased their goods and services, adding to the event’s vibrancy. The Slow Food tent, nestled between a charming native flower stall and the soothing sounds of acoustic music, offered a delightful oasis of culinary delights.

Slow Food embraced its mission of “Good, Clean, and Fair” food, spotlighting local produce and sharing mouth-watering samples with the community. Our menu featured a delectable French-inspired nettle soup served with freshly baked stone-milled Willgrow flour bread, savory Local Goat Feta paired with spoonfuls of golden honeycomb from McCormick Honey, a live cooking demonstration featuring Wootra Farm asparagus in a creamy risotto, and a duo of irresistible Date Cake and Lemon Yogurt Cake. The response was overwhelming, and we sold out early!

Our passionate and dedicated team engaged with visitors, discussing the principles of the Slow Food philosophy and the significance of supporting local producers. We emphasised the joy of consuming seasonal, locally-sourced produce, which enhances flavours and intensifies taste.

Many of the products we showcased are available at the Bindoon local Locavore Store, making it easy for you to explore these flavours at your leisure. You can visit their store or explore their website for online orders.
