Our Role!

Every year, in Turin, Italy, Slow Food organises the Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, which is the most important international event dedicated to food, environment, agriculture, and food politics.

It aims at gathering and promote small-scale farmers, breeders, fishers, and food artisans whose approach to food production protects the environment and communities. Academics, cooks, consumers and youth groups join the movement as well.

The food system has been deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The impacts on the supply of and demand for food have had serious consequences on the four pillars of food security: availability, access, utilization, and stability. So how is it possible to feed the planet and guarantee good, clean and fair food for all? Slow Food has the answer: biodiversity.

Due to the impossibility of travelling, this year, Terra Madre will happen in every corner of the planet. Slow Food has developed a six-month digital-physical journey Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, starting from October, where every country and its communities are able to organise localised and inclusive events to raise awareness about biodiversity and food sustainability. This is where our convivium enters the scene!

Slow Food Swan Valley and Eastern Regions is developing its own 2020 six-month Terra Madre event, also in collaboration with Slow Food Australia and Slow Food New Zealand. The WA six-month programme is made up of a combo of in person events, recorded content and broadcast conference events. The aim is to showcase produce, producers and food experiences available in WA, and in Australia.

With our Spring Sunset Dinner on Oct the 4th, we’ve officially launched the SFSVER Terra Madre. Our journey for the next six months will be to showcase the spectacular local produce and committed producers of our area, to raise awareness around issues in WA and find potential solutions and to inspire more people to follow the good, clean and fair food practices!

We will be at A Taste of Chittering on October 17-18, collaborating with chefs and producers to deliver cooking demonstrations using local ingredients.

We are also collaborating with the University of Western Australia with their Cooperative Research Centre for Honey Bee Products to have an event to showcase the incredible work behind WA’s honey production and bees biodiversity protection.

We are looking at putting together more events and to make them all visible on our channels, so stay tuned and join us on this global six-months journey!
