First of all I would like to thank Rachel and Keven for allowing us to hold our AGM here at Little Albion in the beautiful Swan Valley, Slow Food is very proud to support them because they do an amazing job at the café and winery (Good Clean and Fair)
The Swan Valley and Eastern Regions inc. Convivium was formed in 2011 and incorporated in 2015.
In the years we have focused on different projects from African Gardens to education, promoting local producers by creating a network of producers and consumers, participating to international Terra madre events in Italy showcasing WA produce and in particular WA indigenous food. Taking our local delegates and youths to give them an opportunity to network with other members of Slow Food from around the world.
This last year we did quite a few events even though in smaller scale and dealing with COVID restrictions.
We started the year with an event at UWA in cooperation with BICWA, UWA, NLE and CRC HBP called WA bees for future food security on the 5th of March. This event was a reflation on a crucial role of WA forestry as an important contributor on food security and for the bee industry.
On the 30th of May we participated at Gidgegannup SFFD with a display of food memories, memorabilia and tastings of some recipes from the food memories that we collected from the community.
On the 18th of July we were able to hold a long table lunch Guildford garden to plate. At this event the participants had the opportunity to walk to Peter’s garden to see the produce that we used for the lunch. This was an Italian and Indian affair and I would to thank Prapti for the delicious Indian vegetarian meal and Giovanni for the Italian food. Also I would like to thank Peter for allowing us to visit his Good Clean and Fair garden.
On the 8th of August we held our annual Sausages making workshop followed by the Pasta making workshop on the 17th of October. These workshops are always inspiring for people that like to learn how to make food at home and it is nice when I meet people that have been at the workshop and they are very happy to have made that food at home.
We concluded the year with our Terra Madre Day on the 12th of December with the Wattle seeds harvest and bush food lunch at Avondale Park near Beverley. I would like to thank Oral and his Family for allowing us to have the event on their farm and Alan from NLE for organising it with us. It was a very interesting event where we learned how to harvest wattle seeds which was a very important staple food for Aboriginal people and we also had the opportunity to taste it in a variety of dishes, savoury and sweet.
Our convivium is very proud to support the work and research that the NLE is doing on the production of wattle seeds and I would like to present Alan with a cheque for $ 2,100 that has been raised at past Slow Food events.
I would like to thank everyone that has been coming to our events and supporting the cause.
We haven’t made a calendar of events for this year yet, so please follow us on our social media and newsletter to keep up to date.
I would like to thank Greta for making our newsletter so great and all the people that are contributing with news, recipes and special stories.
To another year of fun and meaningful events!
