Fermentation Workshop

Come and learn about how to ferment seasonal vegetables with Araluen Hagen from 14K Brewery and vegetables sourced from Locavore Store in Bindoon! This is a very exciting workshop, collaborating with Slow Food Snail of Approval Recipients 14K Brewery and Locavore Store to envisage our GOOD CLEAN FAIR philosophy. The workshop will be a hands-on experience where you can make your own fermented vegetables. You will also get to try some different samples of fermented mixed vegetables and kombucha.

The workshop will include troubleshooting and tips on how to look after your ferments. We will provide full notes. How the day is structured Arrive at 9.30am – Bindoon Hall, Great Northern Highway, Bindoon Registration and welcome biscuits, tea and coffee 10am – Introduction to fermenting and tasting at different stages of fermentation. 10.30am – We will be working in pairs and starting with a hands-on activity on how to make a vegetable ferment 11.30am – We will explain how to proceed with ferment and how to know when it is finished and what to lookout for – troubleshooting. 12pm – General discussion and sampling of other types of ferments – kombucha, what you can do with the ferments and options for different ingredients and resource discussion.

You will be supplied with full notes! What to bring Please bring a large bowl, grater, sharp knife, chopping board and a jar with a mouth wide enough for your hand to fit into. A large jar 2 to 2.5 litres is perfect! Charlie’s in Morley sell used olive jars, which are perfect. Brewmart in Bayswater also sells them. There will be some jars with airlocks available for purchase on the day for $10.  Post workshop: ideas for lunch and visits in the area Visit Bindoon Bakehaus for a lovely lunch or take a short 20min drive to Gingins lovely Cu@Park overlooking Granvile Park. Check out the observation hive and get coffee & the famous honey ice cream at our Snail of Approval Recipient West Cost Honey (address is 172 Gingin Brook Road, Gingin)
